Everyone must have a Passport that is valid for the length of your stay;
At this time Americans do not need to show proof of vaccination to fly, but we wanted a negative test on hand just in case things changed with American Airlines. We scheduled an appointment at Walgreens for one day prior to our flight. Call 3 days ahead for the appointment.
Three Entry Documents Required:
Mexican visitor permit also known as the FMM card. Everyone including children must fill out the form. The form can be printed in black-and-white or color. Upon-arrival form must be filled out for Mexico (make sure you have a pen available on the plane if you wait to fill out). I filled this out and printed it at home prior to leaving home. They don’t accept QR codes or online forms. I printed the filled-out form before leaving home. Half of this form is required to leave the country, so keep it with your passport.
Mexican health assessment. Every traveler must complete this form no more than 12 hours before departure time. This wouldn’t allow me to complete ahead of time. Find a computer/printer to use 12 hours prior to departure.
Customs declaration for Mexico. Each family should complete one declaration. (they don’t always ask for this, but it's better to have it filled out.)
Upon arrival form must be filled out for Mexico (make sure you have a pen available on the plane). They don’t accept QR codes or online forms. Print it out - filled-out form done 12 hrs prior to arriving.

Useful general tips for international travel:
US Citizens should register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. This will help your country get in touch with you or assist you in case of an emergency, natural disaster, civil unrest or a pandemic.
Make sure your travel insurance is not affected by government travel advisories.
Leave a copy of your itinerary and travel plans with a family member.
If you’re traveling for an extended period of time it’s a good idea to designate one family member as someone you will contact every 2-3 days. (Just a quick text is all that is needed)
Take photos on your phone of your passport, drivers license and credit cards in case you lose a document.
If you’re making a land crossing into Mexico or Canada and have a Passport Card, you can use the Ready Lane of traffic whether crossing on foot or by car. “Ready Lanes are dedicated processing lanes for both vehicle passengers and pedestrians traveling with Ready Lane-eligible travel cards. Eligible travelers can save time at the border by navigating to designated Ready Lanes, keeping their eligible travel cards in hand, and displaying cards to the in-lane RFID card readers before proceeding to a CBP officer for inspection.”
